Zion Williamson’s eye-watering contract contains clause around his weight

The basketball world has gone into a spin after a star, previously fat-shamed, had his contract leaked showing a wild weight clause.

Zion Williamson’s whopping contract extension has one very surprising clause that quickly sent social media into a spin with Williamson’s name trending worldwide.

The New Orleans Pelicans star has failed to deliver on his other-worldly talents since he entered the league due to injuries and weight battles.

Williamson missed the entirety of the 2021/22 season due to a foot injury and has only managed to compile a total of 85 games across three seasons.

Unfortunately Williamson’s weight has been a hot topic of conversation since he first burst onto the scene and has only continued to build throughout his NBA career.

Despite his struggles, the Pelicans put their faith in him by offering a five-year contract extension worth an eye-watering $A275 million.

But one particular clause within the contract caught the eye of the basketball world, with Williamson’s weight under the microscope.

The clause indicates the Pelicans can subtract money from Williamson’s contract if the sum of his weight and body fat percentage is above 295 pounds, as reported by Christian Clark of Nola.com.

Of course within the contract lies clauses which could elevate Williamson’s from $A275m all the way up to $328m.

Williamson reportedly tipped the scales at over 130 kilograms last year while injured with pundits across the NBA having their say on the size of the Pelicans forward.

NBA legend Charles Barkley said he was “really concerned” about Williamson’s weight. He said of Williamson’s current appearance: “It looks like me and Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal) had a baby,” Barkley said.

Last month however Williamson put the league on notice when he showed of his freakish frame, Williamson looked more like he was ready to line up as a defensive linesman in the NFL rather than stepping onto the hardwood.
