Playing in his seventh year with the Utah Jazz, Australian veteran Joe Ingles is making headlines as one of the NBA’s most prolific shooters from beyond the arc.

The 33-year-old is shooting at 50 per cent from three-pointers — 105 of 210 attempts from his 38 games — which ranks him second in the NBA.

Ingles recently surpassed John Stockton as Utah’s all-time leader in three-pointers, and added five more to his career tally during Tuesday’s resounding victory over the Chicago Bulls.

He has now hit 18 of his last 22 shots (81.8 per cent) from three-point range in the NBA — according to statistician Tyson Ewing, it’s the best three-point percentage through a three-game stretch in NBA history (minimum 20 threes).

Speaking to reporters this week, Ingles explained how he has adjusted his shooting technique over the years.

“When I first came into the NBA, I shot it from down around my ankles. I pretty quickly realised that a 6’8 athletic guy was gonna block that into Row zed,” Ingles said.

“I told you guys in training camp my shot felt good. You guys probably didn’t believe me because I bricked a few early.

“Obviously losing a little bit of that hesitation. Not that I’m not trying to get guys involved anymore, but shooting it when I’ve got an opportunity to shoot it, and guys being supportive of that … You probably just jinxed the hell out of me.”

Inglis mustered 17 points coming off the bench against the Bulls, also contributing seven rebounds and an assist in the 120-95 win.

Donovan Mitchell scored 30 points and Rudy Gobert grabbed a sixth consecutive double-double as the Jazz tightened their grip on the Western Conference standings.

Mitchell laid on an exhibition of long-range shooting with five three-pointers from eight attempts in a comfortable victory for Utah, who improved to 31-11 with the win.

French international Gobert meanwhile added 21 points for the visitors while hauling down 10 rebounds and a career-high nine blocks in a dominant Utah defensive display.

Chicago led by five points early in the first quarter, but when Mitchell and the Utah offence clicked, the home side was unable to respond.

Zach LaVine led the Chicago scoring with 27 points while Thaddeus Young added 14 for the Bulls, who fell to 19-23 with the loss.

The Jazz will next host the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday afternoon AEDT.
