Daniels got his first real taste of the NBA action against the Dallas Mavericks and made the most of his opportunities off the bench.

In 22 minutes of playing time, Daniels contributed all over the floor for the Pelicans and if being given more playing time wasn’t enough … Daniels was given one the most daunting tasks in the league.

The Pelicans trusted the rookie with guarding Mavericks star Luka Doncic.

Daniels held his own against one of the leading MVP contenders, forcing two steals from him and displaying impressive defensive talents.

He ended the contest with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals. Numbers that don’t immediately jump off the page, but in his real first outing it was his presence, instincts and IQ that shone bright.

The Pelicans edged out the Mavericks 113-111 in a hard-fought battle that takes them to 3-1 in the early going of the season.

Not to be outdone, Landale proved why he’ll be a valuable cog in the Suns rotation as they look to make up for last seasons second round playoff loss.

Coming off the bench, Landale was a major factor on both ends of the floor in his 22 minutes, finishing the game with 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

Landale’s outing drew high praise from hall of famer Reggie Miller.

“I think Jock Landale has found a home here,” Miller said on NBA on TNT.

“He stayed the whole summer in Phoenix and worked with the younger guys and absolutely destroyed them.”

ESPN’s Kane Pittman said: “Phoenix legitimately running the offence through Jock Landale over the last few minutes. Landale has a real role on a contending team and remember Chris Paul has made a career of feeding talented big men. Great fit.”

The Suns claimed the dominant 134-105 victory in what was a fiery contest between the Suns and Golden State Warriors.

Things boiled over in the third quarter when the Suns Devin Booker and the Warriors Klay Thompson began trading verbal barbs.

As the jawing went on the referee’s stepped in and slapped both with technical fouls, but Thompson wasn’t finished.

The All Star guard continued his verbal barrage as he made his way to the bench and shortly after was hit with his second technical foul which resulted in an automatic ejection.

It’s the first time in Thompson’s career he has been ejected.

“We’re just two competitors,” Booker said. “I love Klay Thompson. I have for a really long time. But it’s not going to excuse from us being competitive and talking to each other. I’ve always admired his game, how he plays on both ends of the ball. And obviously, the rings speak for themselves.”

Describing the trash talk between the two, Booker summarised: “They have four rings, repeated over and over, and they do, and they did.”
