THE AFLNT remains optimistic that the Northern Territory will still play host to AFL fixtures in 2020 even though no NT games were announced in an updated fixture list released last night.
There has been an increasing interest in TIO Stadium or Traegar Park hosting AFL matches this year in light of the COVID-19 breakout with the Dreamtime clash between Essendon and Richmond proving a popular idea.
However, the AFL has yet to name Darwin a destination for such a fixture.
AFLNT however remains confident that an AFL game will come the Territory’s way this year and continues to work closely with the national body.
“We understand that there is a great anticipation for the return of AFL games to the NT and are eager to welcome the elite competition to our backyard,” an AFLNT spokesperson said.
“AFLNT has been closely involved in conversations relating to fixtures.
“It has become clear that in this unique season we require both oppurtunity and patience, so we thank the broader community for understanding.
