POLICE are calling for witnesses after a post-match brawl involving players and spectators from the Wanderers-St Mary’s under-18 NTFL game.
At around 12:40pm on Saturday, police responded to a report of a disturbance in the TIO Stadium carpark involving a large group of people, including players and spectators.
A 17-year-old female received minor injuries and was treated at the scene by St Johns Ambulance.
Police are calling for anyone who witnessed or filmed the incident, to contact them on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 33 000.
Meanwhile, the AFLNT has appointed a special investigator to examine evidence from the same incident.
One player was transported privately to hospital with a suspected cracked vertebrate.
The league has moved quickly to investigate the cause, alleged fighting and the aftermath of the incident that has attracted attention from around Australia for all the wrong reasons.
AFLNT chief executive Stuart Totham told the NT News last night the investigation will be a one-person show with a possibility results will be known by the end of the week.
“Hopefully that means as soon as possible,’’ Totham said. “But you’ve got to interview the right people and get everything organised in situations like this.
“The other thing to remember is these things need to be done thoroughly, so there is no real timeline.
“We all want it to be done quickly, but it also has to be done fairly and through all the right processes.
“We won’t be compromising those two areas just to get it done quickly.’’
