Updated nominations list for the 2023 AFL Draft

Meet the stars of the 2023 AFL draft

A host of delisted AFL players are searching for another chance after nominating for this year’s national and rookie drafts.

The latest list of draft nominations – which was circulated to clubs late on Tuesday night – includes 908 players from across the country.

The oldest draft nominee is 50-year-old Phil Brown from Williamstown’s Superules side, while the youngest player is 17-year-old Edwin Nyembo from Northern Territory Football League club St Marys.

Brown is 18 years older than the next oldest nominee, while Nyembo turns 18 on December 31.

Nominations closed at 3pm on Monday, but an initial list of 873 players which was sent to clubs on Monday night did not include some applications that were still being processed by the league and were subequently added on Tuesday.

However, top national draft prospects including Harley Reid, Jed Walter, Colby McKercher, Zane Duursma and Nick Watson were all on the list.

A number of AFL players who clubs have committed to re-selecting in the rookie draft feature on the list, including Sam Day (Gold Coast), Chad Wingard and Cooper Stephens (both Hawthorn), Will Hamill and James Borlase (both Adelaide), Jake Melksham (Melbourne), Taylor Duryea and Lachlan McNeil (both Western Bulldogs) and Sam Reid (Sydney).

Other players with AFL experience who are looking for another chance include Brisbane midfielder Rhys Mathieson, Essendon defender James Stewart, Carlton wingman Lochie O’Brien and North Melbourne midfielder Kayne Turner.

Toby McLean (Western Bulldogs), Will Snelling (Essendon), Tom Highmore (St Kilda), Aiden Bonar (North Melbourne), Trent Bianco and Trey Ruscoe (both Collingwood) are among other players who are not yet giving up on their AFL dreams.

The AFL national draft is being held on November 20 and 21, with the rookie and pre-season drafts to follow on November 22.
