An AFL star’s mother stole the show as she took over several post-game interviews after enjoying her son’s win a bit too much.

The GWS Giants pulled off a stunning upset on Saturday night when they ended Port Adelaide’s season.

The Power’s season came to a heartbreaking end on home soil, going down 13.15 (93) to 9.16 (70) as their midfield failed to fire.

Giants skipper Toby Greene and his men will now advance into a preliminary final where they’ll take on Collingwood on Friday night at the MCG.

The celebratory scenes kicked off in the Giants’ room as the team that finished seventh on the ladder secured their place in the final four.

But for one Giants star his semi-final display was overshadowed by his mother who thoroughly enjoyed her time at Adelaide Oval.

Toby Bedford played another key role in helping his team secure victory, finishing the contest with 16 disposals and three clearances. But it was his mother, Mel, who stole the spotlight.

As Channel 7 spoke with Stephen Coniglio, Mel wandered into the shot and positioned herself between Coniglio and Daisy Pearce.

Hamish McLachlan kicked off proceedings after being made aware of who she was by telling her “your son is a gun” and exchanging a high-five.

McLachlan then quickly pivoted, as Mel gave Coniglio a hug, and sent the live coverage to commercial.

“You take Mrs Bedford with you, we’re going to take a break. Mayhem continues on the other side,” he said.

But before the cameras cut away Mel gave the parting words: “Let’s go for the Granny, we got it boys.”

The moment left those around her in hysterics and sent those watching on at home absolutely loving what they were seeing.

She wasn’t done there however as a clip of her talking to Eddie Betts quickly whipped around social media.

Betts was talking to Toby about the match on Fox Footy when Mel came strolling in and took over the interview.

Despite Toby’s best efforts to shoo his mum away, she wasn’t going anywhere as Betts wrapped an arm around her.

“I could not be prouder, I’m just like … Giants the green army is coming,” she said before Betts quickly corrected her and said orange army.

“Why’d I say green. Collingwood are quaking because the Earth is shaking.”

Toby looked desperate for the microphone to be taken away from his mum but Eddie wasn’t having it and fans watching on couldn’t get enough.

The Giants will take on Collingwood on Friday, September 22 at the MCG with a Grand Final spot on the line.
