The Score: Brendan Fevola’s attempted prank falls flat on unsuspecting Carlton membership officer

Carlton goalkicking great Brendan Fevola is no stranger to a bit of mischief but, when he phoned his former club to inquire about getting his name back on the famous No.25 as part of the Blues’ thank you to members, it didn’t quite go to plan.

Brendan Fevola might be one of Carlton’s greatest goalkickers, but that doesn’t mean everyone knows his voice.

Top marks for a switchboard operator at Carlton who took a call from a “life member” recently inquiring about the Blues’ initiative to print lucky members’ names on the back of the club’s match day jumper.

After initial pleasantries and explanation of the sponsorship activation, the operator begins to take down the mystery caller’s details to follow up whether he could have his name printed of a specific jumper, in this case, the No.25, now worn by Zac Fisher.

With the operator baited, former Carlton star-turned-breakfast radio host Brendan Fevola pressed ahead with the prank only to be disappointed in the end.

“They forget their stars pretty quickly down at Carlton don’t they?” Fevola said on the Fifi, Fev and Byron show.

“I used to put bums on seats. Jesus!”

Now, there is a chance the operator recognised the voice and went along for fun but, more likely, due to the volume of oddball calls and requests clubs get daily, the young man played a straight bat.

Blues: “What was your name mate?”

Fev: “Brendan (slight pause) Fevola. F-E-V-O-L-A.”

Blues: “Yep. No worries Brendan, I’ll make a note of it.”

Fev: “Just on the back of 25 I want Fevola written on the back of it.”

Blue: “OK no worries mate, I’ll look into that.”

Fev: “Just be good to get Fevola back on the ground you know, to dominate.”

Blue: “It’d be huge mate.”

Fev: “I’m already on the locker, so I just want to get back on the jumper.”

Blue: “OK, I can look into that one for you Fev.”

Fev: “Just ask Teague, Teaguey might get me on there maybe, I dunno.”

Blue: “I’ll look into it for you, mate.”

Fev: “Because I feel sorry for ‘Fish’, he has to carry that number around all the time his shoulders get a bit sore.”

Blue: “Understandable, mate.”
