Restructuring my SuperCoach team — what does that mean?
And, why would you restructure a team which is scoring well and looks awesome on paper?
And if I am restructuring, where do I start?
These are just some of the questions that you might be asking right now.
Just calm a down!
We are very lucky the fixture has given us byes in rounds 2, 3 and 4 and our five lowest-scoring players drop out of our best 18.
However, from rounds 5 to 11 we will only have 1 score drop out of our final score (due to Flex) and the chances are extremely high that this score will come from our defence or forward lines.
In the early bye rounds you would have noticed that most of the five scores dropping out of your team were rookie forwards and cheaper defenders.
So with best 22 approaching from round 5, SuperCoaches now have to restructure our team in a way where we’ll have all our highest scoring rookies on the field and our lowest scoring rookies on the bench.
We need to get out the crystal ball and imagine what our teams should look like in round 5 — as soon as this week.
When I looked at my crystal ball at the end of round 1 the alarm bells were ringing.
Actually, they were ringing that loud that the neighbours called the police.
Just calm a down!
In my forward and defensive lines my rookies on-field were scoring 20s and 30s,
while my midfield rookies were scoring 50s-80s — and this was including the bench.
This was before I even brought in the better higher scoring rookies.
So, we had a major structure problem within our team.
I call it a crisis.
If we do the maths, and I’m no Einstein, but a rookie defender (Zach Reid/Luke Trainor) on-field scoring a 30 with a mid-priced midfielder (Will Day/Adam Cerra/Finn Callaghan) scoring a 105 is far less than a premium defender (Dayne Zorko/Lachie Whitfield/Bailey Dale) scoring 110 and a midfield rookie scoring 70 (Levi Ashcroft/Nathan O’Driscoll).
There is actually a 45 point difference.
So, I did the unthinkable.
I traded out Adam Cerra, yes you heard correctly. He went on to score 113 in round 2.
I also believe he will average anywhere between 105-110, but what he scored didn’t worry me nor his average, because i need those points in defence to get a rookie such as Luke Trainor off field.
We need to be playing chess while others are playing checkers.
Mind you I don't even know how to play chess, it makes me very confusion when I see the king and queen. Checkers is much easier.
Just calm a down.
Imagining what your team will look like is one thing, but actually planning it and setting it up is something else altogether.
We also need to have funds available for all these moves.
So, with all this in mind, my planned structure for round 5 and beyond will have the following:
DEFENCE: Five premiums and one rookie
MIDFIELD: Five premiums and three rookies
RUCK: Two premiums
FORWARD: Five premiums and one rookie
FLEX: A topscoring rookie
A final note: I may have exaggerated the word premium because in the early stages of SuperCoach any player that can score 100 should be considered a premium.
Although, they may not end up being a keeper in my final squad, when hopefully i am able to achieve a team of guns.
But as many of you would know at Absmagic we usually end up with a team of 31 spuds.
Thankyou for reading and remember one thing: it’s nice to be important, but it’s important to be nice. Ciao for now.
