DAYNE Beams wants to play after a remarkable recovery from a shoulder injury, but SuperCoaches need to be warned about rushing the Brisbane star back into their team.

Beams was initially expected to miss at least three to four weeks when he damaged the AC joint in a heavy bump with GWS ruckman Shane Mumford two weeks ago.

But coach Chris Fagan expects Beams to play through the pain against Geelong at the Gabba on Saturday night.

“I must admit, I didn’t expect him to play this week but got the word on Wednesday that he was a strong chance and he trained really well last night, and wants to play,” Fagan said of Beams.

“I’m really happy to have him back.

“Basically it’s a bruised shoulder. It was always going to be one of those injuries that depended on his level of comfort and recovery.

“All players play with injuries, he’s no exception to that, even though I would say he is, on the Richter scale of toughness, Beams is pretty tough.”

The news is great for Brisbane fans following last week’s brilliant comeback win against Essendon.

But his return is problematic for SuperCoaches as Beams is set for a massive price drop with his breakeven a staggering 227.

GEELONG isn’t so emphatic about Joel Selwood, with coach Chris Scott not ruling out the skipper could again be a late withdrawal.

Selwood was named the Cats’ team to take on the Lions, but Scott said the decision will rest with the medical team.

“I’d say he’s likely (to play), but that’s a dangerous thing to say,” Scott said at yesterday’s press conference prior to training at Broadbeach Football Club.

“I’m really not across the whole procedure, I just get the final call from the medical staff and they haven’t given that to me yet.

“But based on what we’ve seen at training he looks pretty good, but to be frank, he looked pretty good last week but he wasn’t right.

“We’ll just have to cool our jets on that one.”

Selwood was knocked out against Fremantle in Round 14 but was pulled out of the side last Saturday before Geelong’s draw with the Giants.

Patrick Dangerfield, however, will fly up to Brisbane today after visiting wife Mardi and new baby George at hospital this morning.

FORMER Melbourne captain Jack Trengove could come out of the AFL wilderness for his first game in more than a year.

Trengove, who has managed just five game since 2013, has been performing strongly in the VFL with Casey and was named on an extended Demons bench for Sunday’s clash against Carlton.

The Demons will make four changes to the team which lost to Sydney last Friday night.

FREMANTLE rookie Ryan Nyhuis is set to finally make his long-awaited debut.

Nyhuis impressed in the WAFL last week and was again named in Fremantle’s extended squad last night.

But judging by a club tweet, the defender could be one more training session away from breaking into the senior line-up.

Nyhuis’ chances have improved considerably with Lee Spurr withdrawn from the Dockers squad with a calf complaint.

PORT Adelaide will be without defender Matthew Broadbent against West Coast at Subiaco Oval on Sunday.

Broadbent was ruled out after training today, again troubled by an ankle injury that forced him out of the win against Collingwood at the MCG a fortnight ago.

The Power will finalise its match 22 later today but there’s a question mark on halfback Hamish Hartlett (corked thigh) as the prospects of untried midfielders Joe Atley and Willem Drew getting their AFL debut increase.

Port has added forward Brett Eddy to the its 25-man squad.

JAEGER O’Meara flew out with the Hawthorn team to Launceston but the injured Hawk will be an observer at tomorrow’s game against GWS.

“He is back training and we anticipate he is going to do a rehab block over the three or four weeks and get home himself back into the side,” Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said this morning.

“We want him integrated into our group as much as he possibly can. He has come from another club and he is new to our place.”

“We want him to learn as much as he can about our system.”

SUPERCOACH ALERT

Adelaide midfielder Matt Crouch has exploded since the Crows’ bye with back to back scores of 131 and 132. Since opposition teams have worked over Rory Sloane, the younger of the Crouch brothers has stepped up big time. He’s also scored triple figures in this past five games for an average of 118.2.

ON NOTICE

COLLINGWOOD and ESSENDON. It’s very rare two teams are nominated but there’s high stakes for both. The Bombers should be in the top eight but after two fadeouts against Sydney and Brisbane finals could be off the agenda. For the Magpies, another loss adds more doubt over Nathan Buckley’s future.
