NORTH Melbourne coach Brad Scott says his side is playing a style of game that can withstand the pressure in September.
Scott praised his troops for their undefeated start to the season but warned the club would guard against complacency. He said the team was better balanced than in previous seasons.
“We are a more consistent side, no doubt,” Scott said.
“We have got better balance in defence and attack, we are playing a brand that I think stacks up in the heat of finals pressure.
“That means you have got to have players that can win the ball in a contest and I think we have got some pretty good users on the outside.”
After consecutive preliminary final finishes, Scott said the Roos were confident and largely healthy this season, despite a hamstring setback to Kayne Turner last night.
“It comes back to system and players having genuine confidence in what we are trying to do and better ability to execute it,” he said.
“Self belief takes a long time, when you are not playing well and not winning little doubts creep in and players doubt themselves.
“At the moment I think our group has got real confidence in what we are trying to do.”
Scott played down a heated clash between football manager Geoff Walsh and club doctor Peter Baquie and said the stricter out of bounds interpretation was correct in theory.
He said he was particularly satisfied with the gritty nature of last night’s performance against the Dogs.
“What’s underrated is their (Dogs) ability in the contest, we knew it would be hot in there,” he said.
Daniel Wells said after a “sloppy” game personally last week, he was happy last night.
“It was a big game for us, for both clubs. I think a lot of people though they were getting a shootout but the way both teams competed and it turned out to be a great game,” Wells told Channel 7.
“We got the victory and we’re very happy.”
