ON FRIDAY morning Gold Coast chairman Tony Cochrane confirmed the Suns will play a home game against Port Adelaide in China next year but it seems the players don’t share his enthusiasm.
As the news broke, Fox Sports Australia posted a link on Facebook to an article confirming the news, which generated comments from punters and then some unexpected responses — from none other than Gold Coast players themselves.
Young Suns ruckman Keegan Brooksby tagged teammate Aaron Hall in the post to draw his attention to the news.
Hall responded: “I’m done man.”
It seems one of the in-form midfielders and emerging stars of the competition isn’t keen on heading overseas to play the league’s first ever game for premiership points on Chinese soil.
Brooksby, who has played only four career games and just one this season also isn’t thrilled.
“‘General soreness’,” the ruckman replied in reference to when clubs use the excuse to rest players.
Well that’s not ideal. Especially when your chairman was on radio around the same time the comments were posted spruiking the importance of growing the Suns brand and capitalising on huge sponsorship potential.
My comment has been taken out of context. An in-house gag about my superstitious pre game rituals. I would love to play a game in China ð¨ð³

Not to mention the club will pocket around $600,000 to host the game, which Cochrane confirmed was “around the mark”.
“It gives us a real chance to be noticed nationally and helps to put us a bit further up on the stage than we currently are,” Cochrane told SEN.
“The point is that it really gives us the opportunity to leverage some sponsorship opportunities, particularly with the number of major Chinese companies that are very active in the Gold Coast community building huge million dollar resorts and all sorts of things.
“From our point of view we’ll only really gain traction out of the whole arrangement if we can turn that into a bigger opportunity than just merely being compensated for giving up a home game.”
Good luck explaining yourselves, fellas.
