Geelong Cats star Tyson Stengle says he’s sleeping on Eddie Betts’ couch in hope of dodging Covid out

Geelong forward Tyson Stengle has revealed he will be sleeping on the couch at Eddie Betts’ house for the forseeable future after a health scare.

Geelong forward Tyson Stengle has revealed he will continue to sleep on the couch at Eddie Betts’ house as he bids to avoid Covid.

Stengle was forced from his home in Geelong last week when housemate Brandan Parfitt was struck down with Covid in the lead-up to his long-awaited return from a broken hand.

Stengle, who had 17 disposals and kicked a goal in the 30-point win over Carlton on Saturday night, was without a place to live initially as the Cats placed Parfitt in quarantine.

“I was originally staying at a hotel because I couldn’t go home,” Stengle said following the win over the Blues.

“Then on Friday I came over (to Melbourne) and stayed at Eddie Betts’ house before the game.

“I’ll stay there for the rest of the week I think, when he (Parfitt) comes out of quarantine then I think I’m allowed to go home.”

Betts, who is a development coach at Geelong, rolled out the welcome mat for Stengle ahead of the blockbuster clash at the MCG and the pair will remain under the same roof until Parfitt escapes the AFL’s health and safety protocols.

Stengle is Betts’ cousin, and the pair had lived together when they both played at Adelaide in 2019.

Stengle said the club had moved swiftly to avoid him catching the virus.

“It’s been all right, I’ve managed to steer clear of it,” he said.

“I tested negative a lot throughout the week, so I should be fine.”

Stengle kicked 1.1 against Blues, taking his season tally to 33.

In his debut season for the Cats, the former Crow and Tiger has averaged 14.4 disposals, three marks and 2.4 tackles per game.

Stengle is sitting 17th on the Coleman Medal leaderboard and third overall for small forwards, behind Lion Charlie Cameron and Swan Isaac Heeney.
