Adelaide has shown enormous faith in emerging midfielder Jake Soligo, tying him down on one of the AFL’s longest deals – until the end of 2029.

Soligo was already contracted until 2025 before the Crows announced an extension for four more seasons on Friday.

The 20-year-old Victorian is now locked down for longer than any other Adelaide player.

He has lined up in 29 of a possible 35 AFL games since arriving via pick 36 in the 2021 national draft.

Soligo said he was thrilled to stay at the club, which had climbed from a 14th-placed finish in his first season to become a finals contender this campaign.

“Looking from last year to this year, there’s been so much improvement in all the boys,” Soligo said.

“I reckon our method and our game can beat the best so hopefully we can play finals this year.

“When the club came to me, I was really stoked to be part of this journey that we’re on as a young group and hopefully, one day, come out with a flag.

“That’s why I wanted to sign on – I wanted to show the club I’m really invested in this road to a flag.”

Soligo said he was a little starstruck when his manager rang him to let him know Adelaide was keen to re-sign.

“I was like ‘wow’ the club really wants to invest time in me and backs me in,” he said.

“I was really appreciative of that.”

Reports this week suggested Soligo’s housemate Josh Rachele was close to extending his contract long-term, but contracts were not something they discussed.

“We don’t talk footy at home, we just play FIFA and have a bit of a muck around,” Soligo said.

Adelaide list boss Justin Reid said Soligo was an incredibly smart footballer who made good decisions and worked hard on his game.

“We couldn’t be happier with how he has bought into the culture and environment of the group, and fitted in to our team in such a short period of time,” Reid said.

“He’s really added to our midfield with his mixture of toughness and class.”

Soligo’s extension follows half-back Chayce Jones re-signing until the end of 2026 on Wednesday.

EMERGING CROW SCORES NEW DEAL

Adelaide has re-signed emerging wingman Chayce Jones on a three-year deal.

Jones, the ninth pick in the 2018 national draft, is having a career-best season, playing the past 11 matches.

He had been out of contract at the end of this campaign.

The 23-year-old Tasmanian’s new deal will expire 12 months before a team from the Apple Isle is set to enter the competition.

Adelaide list boss Justin Reid said the club was pleased with Jones’s progress.

“He’s shown he can play at either end of the ground and as one of our best runners, he has had a big impact on the wing this season,” Reid said.

“He is tough and has earnt the respect of his teammates who love playing alongside him.

“We’re very excited that will continue for the next three seasons at least.”

Jones said it was an easy decision to re-sign.

“We’re heading in such a strong direction and playing some great footy and I want to continue to be part of the team that is growing together,” the 69-gamer said.

“I feel really settled at the club and it’s nice to be playing some regular and consistent footy so I’m really happy to be staying on.”
