TODD Goldstein is no longer the No.1 ranked ruckman in SuperCoach.
But Max Gawn’s rapid rise isn’t limited to overtaking the Roos ruckman as the best big man in the league — the Demons cult hero has surged into the SuperCoach top five in the first half of the season.
As we embark on the first of three bye rounds, it’s the perfect time to highlight the top 20 scorers so far.
It should be no surprise to anyone that Patrick Dangerfield is the No.1 player in the competition, especially after his massive 229-point haul last week against North Melbourne.
The ever-reliable Scott Pendlebury is next best after his resurgence, on the back of what was a slow start to the year by his standards.
Dan Hannebery ranks third overall, falling below 100 points just once — last round against the Giants.
Speaking of the Giants, Heath Shaw is enjoying a career-best season and sits fourth, while Gawn ranks fifth.
A player is often defined by his ability to perform against strong opposition.
If we rank the top scorers by their output against the current top eight sides, Patrick Dangerfield sits atop with a return of 142.1 points per game, a clear leader ahead of Heath Shaw who ranks second.
Surprisingly, Dayne Zorko ranks fourth with an average of 117.1 points despite the Lions recording an average losing margin of 55 points per game.
The biggest surprise however is Todd Goldstein, averaging only 92.6 points – ranked 71st - and with the Kangaroos playing seven games against top eight sides in the run home (most of any side in the AFL), his potential output is somewhat of a concern.
Jack Steven is the most prolific scorer against bottom 10 opponents this season, averaging 134.1 points, slightly ahead of Todd Goldstein and West Coast’s Josh Kennedy.
Patrick Dangerfield and Scott Pendlebury round out the top five.
Of the top-100 ranked players in the competition, Shane Savage has the biggest differential in a positive way against top-eight sides, averaging 22.5 more points against better opposition.
Alex Rance and Anthony Miles rank second and third, while Matthew Boyd and Josh P. Kennedy round out the top five.
On the flip side, West Coast’s Josh Kennedy suffers the biggest fall against top-eight sides of the top-100 ranked players, averaging 54.8 fewer points per game against the better sides.
Aaron Hall and Jordan Lewis suffer the second and third biggest drop-offs.
