Sam Edmund reveals his first SuperCoach team for 2019

It’s going to take plenty of Fort-itude, but Herald Sun footy scribe Sam Edmund has a cheapie Geelong big man pencilled in as his No.2 ruckman for 2019. Absurd or masterstroke? Click to see his full squad.

Picking a SuperCoach team made easy

Never has holding the fort been so risky.

Darcy Fort is My No.2 ruckman. Let’s not muck around, it’s absurd isn’t it?

But the summer whispers out of Geelong is that big men Zac Smith and Ryan Abbott are struggling a bit and Fort couldn’t have been more impressive.

There’s every chance, at only $117k, the flexibility Fort has given me has just become convenient. It could end up being too good to be true, of course.

Rhys Stanley remains the obvious No.1 ruck option at the Cats, but I’m daring to dream.

Obviously, if Fort does get the gig his ownership will skyrocket, but there’s not much his early fans can do about that.

I wanted Fort’s new teammate Luke Dahlhaus at F4 and the returning Zach Williams at D5, but it left me a little skinny in the midfield.

So I cut that pair for Izak Rankine and Brodie Smith, respectively, to make room for a bloke named Dustin Martin.

“Dusty” had footy’s version of a ‘gap year’ last season and at only $563k you’d be made not to have the re-motivated Tiger.

Elsewhere, this early version of With The Wind is pretty straightforward.

Some might think $207k is too much to spend on a No.1 draft pick when many before him haven’t made us a heck of a lot of coin.

But such is the glut of praise for Carlton’s Sam Walsh I feel compelled to slot him in.

Kade Simpson said he had no weakness, Patrick Cripps said he’ll take the first year by storm and Blues fitness boss Andrew Russell said he’d never seen a kid run like it before.

This from a man who was at Essendon and Port Adelaide during their premiership eras and oversaw the development of Isaac Smith, Bradley Hill at the then-dominant Hawks.
