WHO would have thought defence would provide so many quality cash cows.

A trio of Essendon players — Mitch Brown, Matt Dea and Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti — have provided the backbone of many SuperCoach strategies and teammate Michael Hartley isn’t far behind after debuting last week.

The three are set for hefty price rises after solid starts to the season.

Importantly, as was expected, they are key members of the Bombers’ line-up, which can’t be said for all rookies.

The most pleasant surprise of 2016 has been the form of Western Bulldogs mature-age recruit Marcus Adams.

The strong-bodied defender has shown a penchant for intercept marks and efficient disposal in his two games so far, returning scores of 82 and 135.

Adams has a break-even of -149 heading into Round 3 and his price is projected to skyrocket by $114,000.

If you haven’t got him, get him immediately.

Finally, Carlton’s No.1 draft pick Jacob Weitering has lived up to expectations.

Despite his hefty starting price ($220,800), the Blues youngster has scored well and is projected to rise by almost $50,000, which should ensure he’s ready to be upgraded to a premium scorer sooner rather than later.

There are eight rookie defenders “on the bubble” this week but not all are worth recruiting. Look for the best price increase and scoring potential before settling on your final rookie setup.
