AFL 2024: All the action and SuperCoach scores for Western Bulldogs v Fremantle, Richmond v Hawthorn, Adelaide v Sydney

Tim English went big. And then Brodie Grundy went bigger. But should SuperCoaches be concerned about what happened to Fremantle? See all the Saturday scores and standouts.

It was an unlikely SuperCoach winner on Super Saturday, with Joel Amartey finishing on 182 SuperCoach points.

An old favourite in Rory Laird is lead the way for the Crows, but this afternoon was all about Dustin Martin.

Richmond’s seventh 300th gamer kicked a stellar long-range goal early, but it was the Hawks who claimed their fourth win in a row.

Earlier today, Bontempelli overcame illness for yet another dominant display while popular SuperCoach Dockers were well held by the Dogs.

Scroll down for a full recap of the night’s talking points.

THREE SUPERCOACH TAKEAWAYS

1. NOTHING CAN STOP THE BONT

A season average of 123.3 points - second to only Serong and Heeney in the midfield - Bontempelli continues to reach new heights. Despite battling an illness during the week, he collected 30 disposals and kicked three goals, including one which saw him fend off three opponents. He is owned by 94% of the top 1%, and having the VC on him today would have been a sigh of relief for many.

2. WHO DOUBTED GRUNDY?

All year we’ve been searching for the perfect R2 option, but he’s been right under our noses the whole time. A popular starter, many traded him out after multiple sub-100 scores to start the year. His total ownership sits at 43% with a five round average of 120.2. Tonight, he broke his previous record of 141 against Adelaide as he build into a strong finish to the year. A pivotal cog in Sydney’s success.

3. DOCKERS ARE STOPPABLE

Popular SuperCoach Dockers Jordan Clark, Caleb Serong, Luke Ryan and Hayden Young all scored under 100 points, with Luke Beveridge instigating a plan to nullify the impact of their backline in particular. Ryan (73) was a popular target this week, traded in by 7,830 coaches, but the blueprint is now there for those looking to beat Fremantle - what does this mean for his SuperCoach output? Only time will tell.

It would be remiss of me not to mention Amartey, who would be the POD of the Round for the small amount of coaches who own him. It will be hard for anyone to beat his score tomorrow.

FT SuperCoach Analysis:

It was all about Amartey, who is owned by only 465 SuperCoaches and scored a career-high 182 points.

Heeney (141) made a late charge, while anyone with the C on Grundy (154) would be over the moon.

Rankine had a solid 96 on return, making any holds or trade-ins worthwhile.

Adams (115) recorded his highest score of the season while Warner (64) faced a tag.

Dowling (55) and Strachan (72) appeared to do enough to retain their spot in the side.

Here are the scores:

FT SuperCoach Scores: Adelaide v Sydney

10:10PM: AMARTEY BENCHED

Twice! After his ninth goal, he went off for a spell, but now Amartey is sitting on the bench for the final moments.

He becomes the first player to kick nine goals in a game between the Crows and the Swans.

9.55PM: READ THE ROOM

Hayward fashions the perfect kick to Amartey, who goes back to kick his ninth.

Can he make it to ten?

His previous best was four goals.

He sits in 162 points, trailed by Grundy (127) and Heeney (125), while Laird (118) is the highest scoring Crow.

I’m patiently waiting for a highlight for you ...

9.53PM: SWANS EXTEND LEAD

Sydney has kicked the last eight goals of the game following their most recent at the hands - or feet - of Papley.

Matt Roberts enters the game, replacing Hayden McLean.

It appears to be a tactical move.

9.43PM: HEENEY FLYS

And his SuperCoach score will continue to rise.

At only 37 at half time, he’s rapidly broken the ton, because that’s just what he does.

Another goal to his name after an impressive mark.

3QT SuperCoach Analysis:

The Swans dominated the term, finishing +9 in clearances and +9 in inside 50s.

As a result, Amartey starred again and lifted to 155 points, while Heeney (108) and Grundy (100) continue to tick away despite respective slow patches.

Dowling (42) and Strachan (58) both avoided the sub vest, while Warner (42) continues to face a hard tag.

As well as Laird (106), Lachie Scholl (75) has been impressive, boasting a three round average of 111.7.

9.33PM: ANOTHER ONE
Why not make it eight? Even numbers always sound better ... I’m sure that’s what he was thinking two, after kicking four goals in the second quarter, and yet another four in the third.

Meanwhile, Heeney’s contribution both in front of goal and around the ground has seen his score rise rapidly to 109 as the Swans flip the game on it’s head.

Wow.

9.27PM: BLINK AND YOU MISS IT

And by it, I mean yet another Amartey goal!

He is now lining up for a seventh, and currently has 66% of the Swans’ goals.

Increase that percentage, he’s kicked it! He also has a whopping 143 SuperCoach points.

What a night for the emerging star.

Amongst all of this, Taylor Adams has received a free kick directly in front ... and did I mention Heeney finally recorded a major?

Adams kicks truly and the game has turned on it’s head.

9.23PM: BERRY IN

Harry Schoenberg has been subbed out of the game, replaced by Sam Berry.

Berry has had some strong performances as the sub this year, including a game-winning goal against the Blues.

Tim also owns him ... so I probably wouldn’t recommend bringing him into your SuperCoach side, even if he does go well from here.

9.22PM: JOEL IS ON A ROLL

Back to regular programming as the Swans reply through none other than Amartey ... again.

Buddy must’ve left him his boots or something! He has five from six disposals, as well six tackles.

9.17PM: BROKEN THE ICE
After over half the quarter had elapsed without a goal, Fogarty has broken the ice for Adelaide.

The Crows are playing emphatically after a tumultuous week.

Speaking of breaking things, Laird has broken the ton ... unless he gives away a free kick soon!

9:11PM: REPEAT ENTRIES

Sydney has had 81% time in forward half so far this term, but so far, it has been unable to capitalise.
Warner’s impact has been limited due to a hard tag from Max Michalanney, while Heeney and Papley remain quiet.

Grundy, however, is beginning to influence the game, sitting on 87 points after 26 hit outs.

HT SuperCoach Analysis:

Warner (15) and Heeney (37) have been gaining plenty of attention, with Gulden (67) making up for their lost ground.

Laird (72) has stepped up in the absence of Crouch, while Keane (71) continues to impress.

Dowling remains on 32, while Dawson is tracking well with 56.

Who will lift their side to victory? Will it continue to be a battle between Amartey and Rankine, or will another star emerge, and lift their score too?

Here are the numbers:

8.39PM: AMARTEY PARTY

This blog is bouncing back and forth like a ping pong ball between praising Rankine, and praising Amartey.

While Rankine has provided the Crows with a needed boost, it’s the Swans forward who has turned the game on its head in the past ten minutes.

Four goals from four kicks this quarter, with Sydney having only six for the game.

What a quarter! He sits on 83 points with seconds to play.

8.28PM: EYE-CATCHING BACK

It is Keane, though, who is intriguing me SuperCoach wise.

I wish I could say I backed him in early, but I actually chickened out and his three-round average now sits at 90.

He has gained $124.3K and already sits on 51 points.

Props to those who took the gamble.

8.25PM: AND AGAIN

The answer to my last question was Amartey.

But the Crows muster an almost instant reply, through you guessed it: Rankine.

He’s providing the spark that has been missing since he was sidelines following their clash with the Pies.

8.18PM: WHERE TO FOR SWANS?

Adelaide have scored 19 points from turnover already, punishing the Swans when given the chance.

How will the ladder leaders, and their SuperCoach stars, respond?

8.15PM: RANKINE FIRES

And extends Adelaide’s lead to 18 points.

It came off the back of a huge defensive effort from Dawson, who has 40 points.

Rankine has 34 in what is shaping to be a game-changing return.

QT SuperCoach Analysis:

Popular rookie Dowling sits on 23 points off the back of a solid 63 last week, while Strachan has recorded 18 points.

This might not seem like much, but it is higher than SuperCoach star Isaac Heeney, who sits on only 12.

Taylor Adams (38) and Jordon (35) are stepping up in the middle for the Swans, led by Grundy (39) who slowed after a fast start.

Here are the scores:

QT SuperCoach Scores: Adelaide v Sydney
QT SuperCoach Scores: Adelaide v Sydney

8.02PM: LAIRD WATCH

With Crouch out, we’ve been waiting to see who will step up.

For now, it’s Laird on 52 points already.

He’s been everywhere with 11 disposals (eight kicks) at 91% efficiency and four clearances - the Crows are dominating the latter metric 12-8.

7.42PM: RACHELE MAKES IT TWO

The Crows have the first two majors, and the second goes to Rachele.

It feels like just the other day he was tonning it up as a rookie ... could he do it again today?

Scratch that, the Swans have replied through Adams - we’re in for a hot contest and the Hill is pumping!

Like Rachele, Brodie Grundy is already on 31 points.

7.27PM: SUBS CONFIRMEDIt’s almost game time. Matt Roberts and Sam Berry will start as tonight’s substitutes. Will James Jordon lock down Rankine? Can Grundy capitalise on the up-and-coming Strachan, or will the popular SuperCoach rookie emerge as another must-have cash cow?Fellow Crows young gun Billy Dowling was the most traded in player this week, with 23.4% of coaches welcoming him into their side.

6:13PM: SUPERSUB MADE BY THE HAWKS

Hawthorn have made a tactical sub and brought on premiership star Luke Breust, replacing Jack Gunston.

It didn’t take long for Breust to make his mark, almost kicking a goal within the first minute of being on the ground.

6:08PM: TIGERS OPEN THE THIRD QUARTER

Just like they did in the first quarter, the Tigers kicked the first, this time thanks to Seth Campbell who kicked his first of the night to close the gap by 14 points.

4:35PM: WE ARE UNDERWAY AT THE G’

All eyes are on Dusty who will start up forward, his breakeven is just 64 points as he sits in the goalsquare for the first bounce at the Punt Road end.

A Dusty army sporting the Richmond legend’s famous hairdo has marched on the MCG for his 300th game.

The Barber Club, famous for cutting Dustin Martin’s iconic look, offered free trims before the match against Hawthorn on Saturday with only one catch: it had to be a “Dusty-style”.

Dozens of Richmond faithful lined up in the afternoon to get the signature look.

Barber Lorenzo Manuele said it was the most requested celebrity style and took about 20 minutes to do.

“In Melbourne, this is the flagship haircut to get,” he said.

Postman Duane Smith took a turn in the barber’s chair and said as a Tigers fan of more than 50 years, he wanted to celebrate Martin’s 300 games.

“Do it for the great man,” he said.

“I’m very proud, it’s a great achievement.”

Dustin, 13, said Martin was his favourite player.

His Dad Adam Pagram said they had taken the day off school on Friday to watch the Richmond training session, and Dustin couldn’t wait to get the ‘do in support.

Asked if he was tempted to get a matching cut, Mr Pagram said he couldn’t this time but had sported one before.

“I’ve got an event on Saturday, otherwise one hundred per cent I would,” he said.
