ROVERS coach Damien Hall believes Dylan Barry can still dare to dream of making it as an AFL player after his standout performance for the four-time reigning CAFL premiers last Saturday.

Barry played an influential role in his team’s massive 22.15 (147) to 5.4 (34) win over West at Traeger Park.

Barry – a premiership winner with Southern Districts in the NTFL – spent two weeks training with Melbourne Demons in 2018.

He kicked four goals against West in a best-on-ground performance.

“It’s the best game I’ve seen Dylan play,” Rovers coach Damien Hall told the NT News.

“He had eight shots on goal, and was really good and won the footy all around the ground.

“His run and bounce was very impressive.

“He’s been picking up 14 to 16 possessions per game for South Adelaide in the SANFL Reserves.”

Nigel Lockyer Jr also stood out with six goals against West.

He has also had realistic aims to play in the AFL after trialing with Essendon last year in attempt to win the final spot on the Bombers’ roster.

“Nigel and Dylan are still only 22 or 23, and Nigel has also been playing well for North Adelaide in the SANFL,” Hall said.

“Nigel is the best player in Alice Springs by far.”

Hall was impressed with the challenge West gave his team in the opening round of the 2021 CAFL season.

“We struggled a bit in the first quarter and the inside-50s were pretty even, but after that we got on top,” he said.

“The boys don’t talk too much about their premiership wins. They just want to win and to keep pushing each other. We just talk about getting better.”

South v West and Rovers v Federal are tomorrow’s Round 2 games, both at Albrecht Oval.
