PATRICK Dangerfield played the game of his life against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium to lead Geelong to victory on Saturday night.

The superstar midfielder was incredible from the opening bounce and set the tone for an impressive Cats performance with 15 disposals, five marks, five inside 50s and a goal in a stunning first quarter.

But he wasn’t done.

The former Crow completed his stunning performance on the night with a full stats sheet reading 48 disposals, 13 marks, 13 clearances, 11 inside 50s and two goals for a massive 229 SuperCoach points.

“I was pretty happy with the way that I played and collectively we were really with the way that we ran out the game,” Dangerfield told Channel 9 this morning.

“I suppose from an individual perspective it was one of the more consistent four-quarter efforts that I had since joining the AFL ranks.

Teammate Jimmy Bartel said he couldn’t remember a player taking the ball out of the centre as often.

“To have players wh win in the clearances, carry it 15 metres then deliver it on the end of that is something pretty special. And just to rub it in he’s pretty good in the air as well,” he said on Channel 7’s Game Day.

But the man himself played down his performance in typical AFL player fashion.

“Tonight was a good game but, individually, I’m only able to do that because of the players that we have in our midfield and in our team,” Dangerfield last night told Channel 7 post-match.

“I thought Rhys Stanley and Zac Smith really competed incredibly well against the best ruckman in the competition in Todd Goldstein.

“Joel Selwood was sensational tonight and our forwards really stood up.”

One of his two goals was a brilliant gut-running effort after he set up the foray forward from halfback then ran inside 50 and ended up with the footy 40m out.

“I was lucky to have Stevie Motlop kicking the ball. He wasn’t even looking at me but special players do special things,” he said.

Coach Chris Scott said he can’t remember a better game played by a midfielder.

“The numbers aren’t as important to us as maybe some but the thing from the coaches’ box, we even commented a few times — some of the stuff in the contest, seemingly the ball was just going to him,” he said.

“One-on-one, an even chance at the ball and he just looked like winning it every single time.

“The numbers were outstanding and his power to get out of traffic was pretty special to watch.”

Unsurprisingly the Twitter world was abuzz with the No.35’s performance, with many current and retired AFL players as well as football fans sharing their view on his incredible display.
