TWO lucky Territorians have struck gold, finding themselves at the MCG today supporting their team in the AFL Grand Final.

Greater Western Sydney Giants fan Chris Pick and Richmond Tigers supporter Arthur Rootsey were lucky enough to find the tickets, flying to Melbourne early in the week to throw their unwavering support behind their respective teams.

Giants fan Mr Pick said he wouldn’t miss the chance to watch his team’s maiden premiership, having supported them since switching from the Crows five years ago.

“I gave up on the Adelaide Crows mid way through 2014 due to their continued underperformance,” he said.

“I thought the Giants needed as many supporters as they could get so I started to support them – they have only gotten better ever since.”

He thinks in that time the team has built solid grounding and covers all positions and is strong enough to take the chocolates today.

“We are young and keen. (have) got an awesome defence, great midfielders, and the Coleman Medal winner (in Jeremy Cameron),” Mr Pick said.

“We also played a hard tough and suffocating brand of footy.”

Mr Pick was lucky enough to have landed not one but three tickets to the game, meaning he can take his children to Melbourne to witness what he hopes will be their first flag.

“I don’t think there is any point buying a Powerball ticket again as I struck the jackpot yesterday and managed to get tickets to the GF for myself and my two kids so it’s off to the ’G for us.

“I’m stoked to say the least.” Donning his yellow and black attire, Mr Rootsey said he thinks it’s Tiger Time again in 2019.

He said a Tiger premiership, which would be their 12th ever putting them level with Melbourne and equal fifth overall, would be their greatest ever.

“They will win because of their form coming into the game and the team is a lot more settled than GWS,” Mr Rootsey said.

“It will be a great win because of how hard we have had to work for it.”

Like his GWS counterpart, Mr Rootsey will be cheering on from the stands.

“I have snagged a ticket to the game so I’ll be watching from (the MCG),” he said.

While one of these diehards will end the day on top of the world and the other pondering what might have been, fans across Australia and the Territory will gather around barbecues, at pubs and on the lounge to enjoy one of the most sacred days on the Australian calendar.
