Nat Fyfe’s reaction to Fremantle’s upset win over Melbourne is pure gold

Fremantle pulled off a huge upset to snap Melbourne’s unbeaten AFL streak and their injured star couldn’t get enough of it.

Nat Fyfe might be injured at the moment but that isn’t stopping him from cheering on Fremantle as his Dockers emerge as AFL premiership contenders this season.

The dual Brownlow medallist has been sidelined after undergoing back surgery in March but the Dockers haven’t struggled at all without him, making a strong start to the season.

Fremantle consolidated its spot in the top four with a sensational 38-point win over Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday to break the Demons’ 17-game winning streak.

Fyfe was following the game from his couch at home and streaming service Kayo captured him riding every moment as he watched on intently with his best mate Dougie.

Kayo set up a camera up in Fyfe’s home for a Gogglebox-style watch party and the 30-year-old could barely sit still as Fremantle took it right up to Melbourne.

It was a stunning performance after a low scoring first quarter and the Demons kicking away to a 25 point lead at the main break.

But the second half was all Dockers as an eight-goal third quarter set up a huge upset win.

Fyfe was reasonably composed watching his own team play but got out of his seat and gave a few fist pumps when Freo took the lead in the third term.

Michael Frederick was a major reason for Fremantle’s resurgence and Fyfe couldn’t get enough of the youngster’s deft tap to set up Lachie Schultz for one of his four goals.

“How’s the tap back from ‘Rick’,” Fyfe said.

“Look at ‘Rick’ celebrating it too.”

The result saw the Dockers go up to third on the ladder with an impressive 8-3 win-loss record.

“I’m just really proud of the players,” coach Justin Longmuir said after the match.

“Clearly, the last two weeks have been disappointing. It was about getting back to playing team footy.

“We wanted to have our best trademark game of the year. I think we have been a team that has got an even contribution from all players, and I think we got that tonight.

“That was a fantastic effort. It’s one game, and I said it last week, if we get ahead of ourself, then we will get what we deserve. We want to make sure internally that we are as consistent as we can be. We’ll enjoy this win, but it won’t go past next week.”

The Dockers have managed so well without Fyfe this season some pundits are concerned his return to the line-up might upset the balance of Fremantle’s midfield.

He is yet to play this season but is expected to return either against the Brisbane Lions this weekend or through the WAFL.
