NAB League Rankings: Top SuperCoach scores from Round 1

Left on the board in last year’s draft, an Essendon father-son prospect started the NAB League season in strong fashion. Find out the top performers.

Recruiters describe George Wardlaw as an inside-bull “animal” and after Sunday’s showing in the NAB League, it was easy to see why.

The top-five draft prospect from Oakleigh Chargers was in everything and finished as a clear best-on-ground with 157 ranking points in his side’s win over Sandringham Dragons at Moorabbin’s RSEA Park.

Pressure and tackling are at the forefront of Wardlaw’s game.

He laid two tackles in the opening minute on his way to eight for the match — and when he wasn’t tackling he was pressuring, smothering and laying bumps.

However, Wardlaw looks up to Melbourne’s Clayton Oliver and is more than just a pressure player.

The 182cm midfielder won four clearances among 24 disposals, five marks and an opening-quarter goal.

He has breakaway speed from the contest, the core strength to break opposition tackles and made some slicing kicks back into the corridor and inside-50.

Wardlaw outshone midfield opponent and highly-touted Sandringham Dragons prospect Will Ashcroft on the day.

The Brisbane Lions father-son prospect worked his way into the game in the second half after a relatively quiet start, finishing with 18 disposals, seven clearances and 89 ranking points.

Dragons ruckman Max Ramsden also caught the eye with 11 disposals, three marks, 16 hit-outs and five clearances.

Playing across half-forward, Oakleigh’s Blake Drury was lively and kicked 3.5 from 21 disposals and eight marks.

AFL Academy member Elijah Tsatas also found plenty of the ball for the Chargers through the midfield with 27 disposals, five clearances and six score involvements.

Geelong Falcons midfielder Ted Clohesy was the No. 1 ranked player from the weekend’s Round 1 games, logging 27 disposals (20 contested), eight clearances, eight score involvements and 14 tackles for a total of 182 ranking points.

Essendon father-son prospect Joshua Misiti was one of Calder Cannons’ better players in their first outing, recording 19 disposals, 11 rebound 50s, six marks and four tackles.

A 194cm key defender, Misiti is the son of dual Essendon premiership player Joe Misiti and has been part of the Bombers’ James Hird Academy.
