In selecting the best forward duos, AFL analyst Mick McGuane assessed the form and overall impact of players this year, as well as their availability or lack thereof.
The direct goals tallys of players were only one element taken into account as part of the overall influence of players and their importance to the duo or the how their side’s forward line functions as a whole.
The likes of Sydney’s Tom Papley (five games), Carlton’s Harry McKay (seven games) and many others were excluded from selection due to featuring in limited games or being ruled out with injury for the remainder of the season.
