A heartbreaking semi-final loss has cleared the way for Tom Morris to resume his media career with SEN this Sunday.

Morris’ much-awaited return was put on hold for a week because of his commitments to the St Kilda Cricket Club where he plays in the second X1.

He has been given a chance by SEN to co-host the Sunday Crunch Time show with his former Fox Sports colleague Sarah Olle.

Morris made 22 and took a couple of catches behind the stumps in the semi-final against Footscray which went down to the final ball.

The Saints had made 9-295 with the Dogs chasing it down by hitting a four off the last ball of the two-day game with just one wicket in hand.

AFL POWERHOUSE BANS DAISY FROM ROOMS

Daisy Pearce’s new career move of juggling two hats has hit an early snag.

The former AFLW champion is this year combining her special comments work on Channel 7 with an assistant coaching job at Geelong.

But this got off to a rocky start on the opening night of the season when Pearce was banned from entering the Richmond changerooms.

Channel 7 likes to regularly put their on-air talent in the rooms either before games or afterwards but the Tigers made it clear Pearce was not welcome.

The move was not personality based, rather in keeping with the club’s philosophy that they’re not comfortable with having an opposition coach inside their inner sanctum.

It’s understood Richmond aren’t the only club with reservations although Carlton didn’t have an issue with Pearce being in the rooms for round 1.

The Melbourne premiership player had already made adjustments to her media career to cater for her new coaching arrangements in Chris Scott’s team.

She has stepped aside from the Friday night Seven team, instead moving to Thursday nights. Pearce had been promoted to the prime time seat after Wayne Carey was moved on last year.

Richmond legend Matthew Richardson has stepped up from his sideline role to take Pearce’s spot on Fridays alongside Luke Hodge, Brian Taylor and James Brayshaw.

SEN RATINGS FIGURE JUMPS OFF PAGE

THE radio ratings dropped some interesting numbers last week particularly for Craig Hutchison’s SEN.

While we know the sports network boss isn’t a fan of the traditional ratings system – he seems to be more enamoured with podcast downloads these days – there was one figure which burst off the page for the opening survey of 2023.

With Gerard Whateley away on his dream round-the-world commentating gig covering the Super Bowl in Arizona followed by Test cricket in India, his morning show took a massive hit, halving its audience from last year’s final survey to come in at 1.3.

To put it in context 3MP 1377 rated more as did 3RN (ABC Radio National).

One positive for SEN was the evening numbers, increasing off the back of the India Test series which went until 10pm with an increase of 1.5 to 3.5.

It was good news over at 3AW for the debut of Sam McClure’s Wide World of Sports Program which was part of a drive figure (4pm to 7pm) which was up 3.9 to 14.6.

McClure is going it alone after former co-host Gerard Healy took the long-running popular Sportsday product over to SEN where he is teaming up with Kane Cornes. The drive rating on SEN was up slightly to 2.2.

WHITE MAKES SEN CALLING DEBUT

A FAMILIAR voice was back on the airwaves on Sunday with Adam White calling football on SEN.

White cut his teeth as one of the main AFL callers at the ABC alongside Gerard Whateley several years ago before most recently being co-host of RSN’s Breakfast Club.

He was behind the microphone on AFL Nation for the St Kilda-Fremantle game on Sunday.
