Herald Sun Footy Podcast: Lauren Wood, Michael Warner, Scott Gullan and Jon Anderson debate the big Round 8 issues

Losing Scott Pendlebury and Jordan De Goey is a huge blow for Collingwood, but another missing player could be the reason the Pies’ premiership hopes are fading fast.

Nathan Buckley’s injury curse has returned with a vengeance in 2020.

After losing Jeremy Howe and Jordan De Goey for most of the season Magpies skipper suffered a quad strain in the warm-up before Sunday’s clash against West Coast.

But another forgotten name on the Magpies’ injury list has been just as costly, according to veteran journalist Jon Anderson.

“Don’t forget Tom Langdon is a really good footballer,” he said on the latest episode of the Herald Sun Footy Podcast.

Langdon hasn’t played since Round 9 last year as he tries to overcome a debilitating knee complaint.

“In the Grand Final two years ago he was arguably their best player, intercept marking across half-back just like Jeremy Howe.

“They’ve been cruelled by injury, but that’s footy.

“Their best 22 is good enough to win it, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

Anderson and podcast co-hosts Lauren Wood, Michael Warner and Scott Gullan debated which teams will emerge as genuine contenders after the coming fixture cram and the possibility teams will adopt NBA-style selection policies with players rested depending on the fixture.

Also on this week’s episode — why Alastair Clarkson is in deflection mode, why Hawthorn’s salary cap scandal is footy’s worst kept secret, why the Eagles are back in town and Ando names his mid-year All-Australian team.
