IN demand AFL star Josh Kelly has reportedly agreed to re-sign with Greater Western Sydney, shunning big-money offers from rival clubs.
The 22-year-old midfielder has not officially put pen to paper, but the Giants remain confident of an extension being signed within the coming weeks.
Kelly’s agent Paul Connors reportedly told the club his client will remain a Giant for a further two seasons, and is a position that has been widely reported in the media.
However, Channel Seven and SEN footy journalist Sam McClure believes the reports are calling the situation too early.
“I’d be very worried about calling the Josh Kelly situation early,” McClure said on SEN Breakfast.
“As I understand, it has not happened. Nothing has changed and that Kelly, as he has always maintained, will be making a decision at the end of the year.”
Channel Seven’s Mark Stevens also suggested while Kelly may well stay in Sydney, nothing was set in stone as yet.

The Victorian has become a hot commodity this season with North Melbourne leading the charge for his services by offering up a nine-year deal worth $10 million.
It comes amid an impressive 2017 campaign for Kelly, rewarded with his maiden All-Australian selection after averaging 29.4 disposals a game for the Giants.
If an extension is signed with the Giants it would mean Kelly will next come out of contract at the age of 24 and again place him atop the list of rival clubs’ most wanted players.
While the demand for the youngster is through the roof, Melbourne legend Garry Lyon and recently sacked Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade don’t believe he is the Giants’ best player.
“Not from my perspective, but he’d be close to being their best. In two-years’ time he might easily be the best, but Toby Greene (is the best) for me at the minute.” Lyon said on SEN Breakfast.
“I like Dylan Shiel (is the best), I reckon he’s a terrific player,” Rodney Eade added.
The news of Kelly signing an extension would cap off a terrific week for the club who announced on Wednesday 2012 No.1 draft pick Lachie Whitfield has re-signed until 2020. It’s a boost for the Giants ahead of their semi-final against the West Coast Eagles on Saturday evening.
STRINGER OUT OF THE KENNEL
Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has confirmed forward Jake Stringer is on the AFL trade table. Beveridge said on Wednesday that it is a mutual decision by the Bulldogs and the 23-year-old.
But the coach added that Stringer would only leave if the right deal could be struck and Beveridge added there is still a chance that the forward might stay. It is the first confirmation from the Bulldogs that Stringer is up for trade, after a week of speculation.
While Essendon, Geelong and St Kilda have all expressed initial interest in trading for Stringer, Essendon legend Tim Watson believes alarm bells should be ringing for any potential suitor.
“When a coach like Bevo falls out with a player like Stringer and loses faith and confidence in him, for me the alarm bells start to go off immediately about the player,” Watson said on SEN Breakfast.
“It’s said a leopard never changes its spots, they get bigger or smaller. It’s time for Jake to shrink his.”
The criticism from Watson comes on the back of David King stating on Fox Footy he believes a factor in the falling out between Stringer, the coach and playing group could stem from his tardiness.
“I think disrespecting the group by constantly being late to training is something that in the end, kills you and you can’t live with,” King said on Fox Footy.
Despite his name being on the trade table, the Bulldogs have said if the right deal cannot be agreed to Stringer will remain at the kennel.
