South Australian footy fans won’t get a freeze in the price of general admission tickets to AFL games this year like their Victorian counterparts.
General admission tickets for games at Adelaide Oval in the 2025 season will go on sale from Monday.
The AFL announced on Thursday that there would be a price freeze on general admission tickets at the MCG and Marvel Stadium, as well as GMHBA Stadium in Geelong.
AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon said it would help footy fans deal with the ever increasing cost-of-living pressures.
All 18 clubs set the ticket price for their home matches, but the AFL owning Marvel Stadium and its arrangements with the MCG and the clubs that play there assists in its ability to freeze prices at those venues.
That means the two South Australian have the capability to also freeze general admission prices but Crows chairman John Olsen said you could not compare what happens in Melbourne to what happens in Adelaide.
“It is a very different ball game in Melbourne,” he said.
“The AFL owns Marvel Stadium so that is the number one difference.
“The second is Gather Round and there are opportunities here for members.
“So there are other offsets and it is not simply about comparing one price to another, you have to look at the whole season and the advantages and disadvantages of both.
“It is not about comparing apples and apples.”
There is also up to five games in Victoria on any given weekend compared to the one in Adelaide.
Both Adelaide and Port Adelaide will have dynamic pricing for tickets to their games in 2025, meaning in periods of high demands for some games prices may vary.
It means that the cheapest way to attend the footy at Adelaide Oval is to purchase a membership for either club.
The Crows kick off the 2025 offering at Adelaide Oval against St Kilda in a Sunday lunchtime game in Round 1, with the Power hosting Richmond in its first home clash the following Saturday.
Ticket prices for the third edition of Gather Round in 2025 have been frozen at an entry level across all three of the venues that will be used – Adelaide Oval, Norwood Oval and Barossa Park.
