An Essendon-linked midfielder-forward has produced another monster game in the Coates Talent League as he quickly rises up draft rankings.
Calder Cannons product Adam Sweid was among the competition’s top-ranked players in round 2 over the weekend, playing a key role in his side’s 74-point triumph over the Tasmania Devils.
A member of Essendon’s Next Generation Academy, Sweid gathered 26 disposals (16 contested possessions), five clearances, seven tackles, six score involvements and one goal for a total of 171 ranking points.
The performance backed up a 25-disposal, five-clearance and two-goal game against the Oakleigh Chargers in round 1, which amounted to 178 ranking points.
As reported by the Herald Sun last week, the 175cm Sweid played his first official Coates Talent League match for the Cannons in round 1 after missing last year with an ACL injury.
He moves well, takes the game on, has clean hands and can hit the scoreboard or set up teammates when pushing forward.
Cannons teammate and fellow Bombers NGA member Hussien El Achkar backed up a four-goal haul in round 1 with another three goals against the Devils, while potential No. 1 draft pick Cooper Duff-Tytler was impressive again with 24 disposals, five marks, four clearances and 23 hit-outs.
Elsewhere, highly-rated Sandringham Dragons key forward Archie Ludowyke bounced back from a quiet round 1 game to slot five goals from 13 disposals against the Eastern Ranges – including the final major of the game with less than three minutes to play to hand his side a six-point win.
Big-bodied Eastern Ranges midfielder Oliver Greeves registered 31 disposals and six clearances in that match, while bottom-age Gippsland Power forward Cody Templeton kicked five goals from 27 disposals in a standout performance against the Dandenong Stingrays.
