Footballers, golfers and cricketers are all centre stage on Sunday as Adelaide is transformed into a feast of women’s sport.

Tomorrow is a veritable “Super Sunday” of women’s sport with Adelaide hosting three major events.

Not only is it the culmination of the Australian Open at the Royal Adelaide Golf Club, but the world’s top cricketers are playing official T20 Women’s World Cup warm-up matches at Karen Rolton Oval and the Crows are playing their first home game of the 2020 AFLW season where they’ll unfurl their premiership flag.

English cricketer Lauren Winfield – who was an important member of the Adelaide Strikers’ in last year’s WBBL – will come up against her Strikers teammates in Kiwi pair Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine when England plays New Zealand.

Devine, who was the WBBL’s Player of the Tournament after scoring 769 runs and taking 19 wickets, said Sunday’s game was important preparation for the White Ferns ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup starting on Friday.

“This will be our first opportunity on Australian soil to come together as a side in a world cup event,” she said.

“It’s important for us to lay the marker down in how we want to play the game moving forward.”

Devine, who was last month named NZ’s captain, is considered one of the most dangerous players of the upcoming tournament after she set a new record in November for most consecutive sixes when she belted five in row for the Strikers.

But she named the likes of English captain Heather Knight and Sri Lanka’s Chamari Atapattu as players to watch.

“I could name someone from every team and that’s the great thing about the woman’s game … anyone who has the privilege of watching a women’s game of cricket will see that not only are we clearing the ropes, but we are athletic in the field, we’re bowling the ball faster and it all just adds to the spectacle of the game.”
