Versatile Hawthorn defender Sam Frost will remain in brown and gold for two more years.

The ex-Demon and Giant, who is still recovering from a knee injury, won’t look for a fourth AFL club after inking a new deal to stay at the Hawks until at least the end of 2024.

Frost follows Mitch Lewis (2026) and Conor Nash (2024) in re-signing in recent weeks as list boss Mark McKenzie continues to lock away his priority signings.

Jack Gunston, Kyle Hartigan, Dan Howe, Ben McEvoy, Harry Morrison, Tom Phillips and Liam Shiels are among those still without a deal beyond this season.

Veterans Hartigan and Phillips have made only three senior appearances each in 2022, as first-year coach Sam Mitchell places a higher emphasis on youth.

Frost has been an excellent backline addition since being traded from the Demons, cementing his spot at Hawthorn and finishing in the top eight of the Peter Crimmins Medal in both his completed seasons.

The 28-year-old has also been used up forward and even the ruck when required.

“‘Frosty’ has proven a reliable and important player for us since coming across at the end of 2019,” McKenzie said.

“Despite being in only his third year at the club; Sam has quickly developed into a valuable leader for our young and emerging group.

“Along with being among our most fierce competitors on the field; Sam continues to help foster Hawthorn’s strong culture, as well as drive standards to set us up for future success.”

Frost has played 141 games in total since the Giants selected him with the first pick in the 2011 rookie draft.
