NEED help picking a winner in Round 8? Check out the verdict from the Herald Sun experts.

Jon Ralph has taken the outright lead as the field begins to sort itself out a third of the way through the season.

Ralphy picked eight winners in Round 7 to split a three-way tie, missing only Carlton’s win against Collingwood.

Former joint leaders Tim Watson and Grant Baker tipped the Pies but also nominated Gold Coast to beat Melbourne.

The only tipsters to pick Carlton were Ron Reed, Patrick Dangerfield and the Kiss of Death.

In the first week of the federal election campaign, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull picked eight winners while opposition leader Bill Shorten stumbled, picking only five.

The pair are now level on 44 tips for the year but that is unlikely to last — Shorten has picked Adelaide on Friday night and Collingwood to beat Brisbane while the PM is backing the Cats and Lions.
