AFL draft 2022: Top performers and every SuperCoach score from U18 National Championships

A trio of sons-of-guns are putting on a show at the national championships, warming the hearts of their their fathers’ former clubs .

Vic Metro key forward Matthew Jefferson has produced a seven-goal haul in a stunning second match of the AFL under-18 national championships that is sure to ramp up his interest ahead of this year’s AFL draft.

The Oakleigh Chargers product and NAB AFL Academy member was the standout performer in Vic Metro’s clash with Western Australia at Ikon Park on Saturday, with the local side powering to a 27-point win.

A 195cm forward, Jefferson’s haul included five goals in a blistering third quarter, after he booted two majors in the opening term.

Jefferson led strongly, took some big pack marks overhead and was a dead-eye in front of goal, booting 7.0 from his first eight kicks of the match.

He finished with 10 disposals, six marks and nine score involvements to go with his bag of goals.

A former budding basketball star, Jefferson won a Victorian championship with the Waverley Falcons in under-16s.

He trained with Richmond for a week in January as part of the AFL Academy program, but looks up to a pair of AFL brothers in Ben and Max King, as well as a young Bomber.

“They (the King brothers) are big lead up forwards who can take contested marks,” Jefferson told News Corp earlier this year.

“Someone like Harry Jones at Essendon as well, I like watching him.

“I’m a big lead-up forward with good leading patterns and can take a contested mark as well. But I also feel like my versatility’s a real strength of mine. I can go back, play a bit of wing for school as well. So a bit of everywhere.”

Jefferson was not the only player to catch the eye for Vic Metro, with Essendon father-son prospect Alwyn Davey Jnr again impressing through the midfield and pushing forward.

Davey kicked two goals in the last quarter including one classy banana snap and again showed off his speed, agility and ability not only to crumb the ball and kick goals but also win his own ball.

Draft bolter Cam Mackenzie continued his rise with another strong game through the midfield, the prolific ball winner from the Sandringham Dragons racking up 28 disposals and a goal.

Brisbane father-son prospect Will Ashcroft logged 25 disposals and a goal in another solid outing and again displayed his two-way running and ability to extract the ball from contests with strength and fierce determination.

Top-10 draft prospect Elijah Hewett was the standout for Western Australia, with the prolific midfielder gathering 29 disposals, five clearances and two goals, including a brilliant goal from tight on the boundary line in the final term.

Hewett, who has explosive speed away from stoppages, had been best afield in the opening half, by which point he had already logged 17 disposals, nine inside-50s and a goal.

Jedd Busslinger, a 190cm defender, was also impressive for Western Australia with his intercept marking down back, taking eight marks as well as racking up 18 disposals.

Vic Country captain Jhye Clark was again one of the shining lights for his side in a 33-point win over the Allies on Sunday, logging 27 disposals, 11 marks, four clearances and a goal.

Crafty Vic Country small forward Jacob Kontanty made the most of his opportunities with three gaols from eight disposals, while midfielder Jaxon Binns collected 39 disposals, 14 marks and 14 inside-50s.

GWS Academy member Harry Rowston impressed for the Allies with 27 disposals, seven clearances and eight inside-50s, while Tasamanian product Brandon Leary kicked three goals.
