THE Boundless Possible NT 3x3 teams starred in a COVID-19-marred Australian Grand Prix 3x3 tournament over the weekend, with both the men and women making the semi-finals.
The disjointed tournament originally took place at the Australian F1 Grand Prix at Albert Park, but due to the closure of the race, it was moved to the Melbourne Sports Centre with crowds unable to attend.
Territory star and two-time WNBL champion Abby Cubillo, Olympian Marianna Tolo, and Ellas and NBL1 Albury Bandits player Deba George fought hard to push their sides into the finals. But the draw was not on the NT’s side, with both teams coming up against Melbourne outfits who would go on to win the tournament.
Basketball NT pathways manager Rod Tremlett was proud of how his sides played in spite of the unusual circumstances.
“I’m really proud of the way they played in some tough, unusual conditions,” Tremlett said.
“We got under way at the original site but were forced to move two games in so the tournament concluded with no spectators.
“We were a bit unlucky with how the draw fell coming up against the Australian representative sides, but we did well considering the limited prep for our sides.”
The NBL has also decided to postpone the 3x3 National Championships which were due to take place in Geelong from March 28.
As a result no further training will take place for the NT 3x3 squads unless the event is rescheduled to sometime later in the year.
