CENTRAL Australia Football League premiers Rovers know time is running out on a shortened season affected by the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Double Blues are on the top of the Premier League ladder after eight rounds and seemingly headed for a second semi-final berth.
But a closer look will reveal the premiers have a game in hand over their closest rivals Federal and Pioneer.
That equation gets a lot tougher when tomorrow’s clash against the in-form Pioneer is factored into the double chance equation.
A loss to Pioneer tomorrow and a bye in the last round could open the door for both sides underneath them to jump above them and consign Rovers to the elimination final.
Rovers coach Damien Hall is aware of the maths figures and the dangers involved with a loss to the high flying Eagles.
“There’s no doubt Pioneer is playing some good footy right at the minute and they’re a really good side, but we’re looking forward to it,’’ he said.
“The most important thing for us is we’re pretty settled and don’t expect a lot of changes.
“Nigel Lockyer’s return from a fractured skull last week went better than expected and I could have given about 10 of our blokes best on ground votes after the Federal win.’’
Federal should bounce back hard from the Rovers loss by beating the young Wests side at Traeger Park.
But the Bloods got a bit shot of confidence following their narrow loss to Souths and will test the leg speed of their opponents.
