DRAW ANALYSIS
BALMAIN
Meet newcomers Central Coast in the opening SG Ball round, before tough clashes against Parramatta, Wests, Melbourne and New Zealand. Finish with a couple of home games, but will need to fire early.
CANBERRA
Four of their first five games are on home soil at Belconnen, including a few challenging games against Canterbury and Penrith. Have a golden opportunity to set up their season.
CANTERBURY
Spend the last three weeks on the road after a home-stand at Belmore and Hammondville. Their byes are out of the way inside the first three rounds, with a last-round clash against Parramatta the highlight.
CENTRAL COAST
Make their SG Ball debut against Balmain on home soil, before a trip to New Zealand in round four. Get an early Lisa Fiaola blockbuster against Illawarra, before finishing with Parramatta and Wests Tigers.
CRONULLA
Tough start and finish to the year, beginning with Newcastle and Parramatta before concluding with Penrith and Canberra. Will be looking to have their spot in the finals locked up by then with a good middle portion.
ILLAWARRA
Will need to be on their game early, taking on South Sydney and the Roosters in the opening fortnight. With further matches against Parramatta, Canterbury and New Zealand, there’s no easy games.
MANLY
Start their male season with a trip to New Zealand and a female double against Canterbury. Things lighten and they have a good run to the finals if they are able to regather their best form.
MELBOURNE
Their female divisions take on North Sydney for their first ever games. A three-game road stretch against St George, Newcastle and Canberra will shape their season with a solid run to the finals.
NEW ZEALAND
After previously starting most of the season on the road, their first three games will be in New Zealand. They’ll want to win a few of those with fixtures to come against Canterbury, Parramatta and Illawarra in Australia.
NEWCASTLE
Cronulla, Wests, Melbourne and the Sydney Roosters gives them a challenging opening month, but their boosted by the fact those first three are at home. Always a tough trip to take on the Knights and they can use that in their favour.
NORTH SYDNEY
Four of their first six games are away, including trips to Melbourne and Canberra. A clash with rivals Manly at Brookvale in round two could be a defining one as both teams look to make an impact.
PARRAMATTA
Their first three games are all on the road, but that won’t bother them. A tough finish to the season against New Zealand, Central Coast and Canterbury, but all three are at home and they’ll be in their groove by then.
PENRITH
Important start for their male teams if they’re to return to the finals, taking on Sydney, Central Coast and Canberra in the opening three rounds. Their female teams enjoy a good finish to the season.
SOUTH SYDNEY
Been handed a dream draw in terms of staying at Redfern, with a lone trip to NZ the only time their male teams leave the region in the opening six rounds. Female teams face off with some of last season’s best teams.
ST GEORGE
Canberra, Melbourne, Roosters and Cronulla in the opening month is the guide for their season. If they can hang in there, they’re rewarded with a good final month, including three games at home.
SYD ROOSTERS
After making two grand finals last season, they will fancy their chances of getting off to a hot start against top teams Illawarra, Newcastle and Cronulla. Key games against Melbourne and the Wests Tigers shape their finals run.
WESTERN SUBURBS
Blockbuster against Parramatta to open the season before a trip to Newcastle and then a local derby against Balmain. Tough last two games with Canterbury and New Zealand (on the road) before a final round bye.
WESTS TIGERS
Meet the defending premiers Parramatta in the opening round before taking on three contenders in the final month. They face off with Canterbury, Illawarra and the Roosters on the run to the finals.
