TERRITORY opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro has vowed to scrap the NT’s new rental laws — which presume tenants have the right to keep pets on a property — if the CLP wins the August election.

Ms Finocchiaro described the changes – which were passed in parliament last week – as “legislative overreach.”

“This Labor Government can’t help themselves but intrude in people’s lives and Territorians have had enough and are pushing back,” she said.

“Under a CLP Government, tenants will be able to negotiate freely with landlords around the suitability of a pet in their own property.”
