Golfing great Greg Norman has put his name to hundreds of millions of dollars in real estate, from the US to Mexico, Dubai, Vietnam and Australia.
It’s now Sydney’s turn with the 68-year-old – hailed one of the world’s best athlete-turned-businessman – in town on Friday on a whirlwind 48 hour trip to launch a $300m luxury residential community in the southwest alongside developer Sekisui House.
The residential project Norman Estates at Gledswood Hills is Norman’s first branded residence in Australia and comes alongside a nine-hole golf course designed by his company.
Shawood, the home building brand of Sekisui House, has announced Norman Estates has already sold half of the 190 homes recording $144m in sales. The luxury home range is priced from $1.268m.

Norman took a chopper from Sydney Airport to southwest Sydney for the launch, telling The Daily Telegraph his philosophy was about creating something “that differentiated itself from the rest of the community”.
“I have done that successfully in other parts of the world; America, Asia and the Middle East. I wanted to do it here in Australia,” he said.
“You want to be different, you identify the growth corridor. The Sydney growth corridor was going southwest, we saw that back in 2018/2019 so why not try and get ahead of it.”
He said the development was a collaboration of many parties from the developer to Camden Council and its predecessors.
“It’s a collaborative effort with a lot of people that makes something successful and the benefactors are the people who live here,” he said.
“Delivering on what is required for this part of southwestern Sydney … we have done it and we have done it successfully. I am proud of those things and I am proud of the team. I am just one guy. To build a successful business you need a team of great people.”
He said he hadn’t had a chance to play a round at the new golf course, but assured everyone “I’ll get there”.
Norman, who spent 331 weeks as world number one in the 1980s and 1990s, has other branded Norman Estates across the globe in Vietnam, California, Florida, Mexico and Dubai.
He said the Gledswood Hills project would “echo the design of Norman Estates enclaves around the world”.
The Florida-based entrepreneur has also had a hand in many masterplanned communities worldwide and Australia from Pelican Waters in Queensland to Settlers Run in Victoria.
His wife Kirsten Norman is the founder of Norman Design Group which designs the luxurious interiors and architecture across Norman’s real estate brand.
The golfing hall of famer has built a hugely successful business empire since retirement, diving into everything from real estate and wine to golf course development and designer clothing. There is also his role as chief executive officer and commissioner of LIV Golf which is building for its second full season amid its merger with the PGA Tour.

For a man who left golf with $14m in PGA Tour earnings, he is now reportedly worth more than $400m and has designed and developed more than 100 golf courses in 34 countries with fees up to $2m per course.
Norman said his estates had become “acclaimed lifestyle brand globally, bringing to life a distinctive style of luxury residences”.
“At Norman Estates in Sydney, SHAWOOD have set an unprecedented standard of living in master planned communities, and I am delighted to have partnered with the Sekisui House team on this incredible project,” he said.
“The amenities, abundance of green space, outdoor alfresco spaces, and spectacular residents lounge have been a clear point of interest for Australian buyers.”
“The attention to detail, craftsmanship, and sustainable building practices employed by SHAWOOD are truly unparalleled.
“I have been thoroughly impressed by the commitment of Sekisui House Australia in creating exceptional living spaces that harmonise with the natural environment. I especially love the residents’ lounge, which is the crown jewel of this estate.”
Sekisui House chief executive officer of residential communities and home building Sean Osawa said Sekisui House was the number one builder in the world having cumulatively supplied more homes than any other builder as of January 31 2023.
“The momentum we are seeing with sales of SHAWOOD homes in Norman Estates are a testament to this,” he said.
“The results and buyer interest in the homes signal the strong demand for premium lifestyle properties in Southwest Sydney.”
Sekisui House design director Lester Chambers described the Japanese-influenced homes in Norman Estates as “simple yet functional”.
“There’s no waste of space and everything has a purpose,” he said.
A walk through one of the homes identified simple conveniences such as light switches set at door handle height.
“A lot of things people take for granted is what we are all about,” he said.
During his career, Norman won 88 professional tournaments, including 20 PGA Tour tournaments and two majors.
