A SITE directly across the street from the iconic Q1 supertower in Surfers Paradise has a new owner and plans for a big tower.

GCAP Property has lodged plans to build a 28-storey high-rise on Hamilton Ave, just months after buying the 810sq m site for $5.1m.

The luxury complex will feature 24 units and 73 bedrooms.

The project will feature a giant multi-level atrium on its ground floor and a host of “wellness facilities”.

“The communal spaces here are envisioned as a subtropical resort – generously landscaped with lush foliage, open to views yet sheltered from the harsh afternoon sun,” a planning report on the project reads.

“The central pool zone has a series of intimate and distinct spaces carefully curated along a lap pool.

“A wellness centre anchors the southern end while a series of enclosed and open dining and lounge spaces hold the northern side of the building, creating an activated and active corner providing good passive surveillance to the street.”

The land has sat empty since a two-level unit block was demolished in 2016.

The new project will replace plans for a 22-storey tower filed with council in March 2020, just after the original Covid-19 lockdown began.

Changsheng Zhaocheng Investment’s proposal remains before the Gold Coast City Council awaiting approval, however GCAP’s plans will now supersede them.
