This is how we are living right now — or how we want to live.
And when it comes to the homes we live in, or want to live in, in Sydney and regional NSW, it is all about the lifestyle.
With Covid’s seismic effect on our lifestyles and our life choices behind us, we want to relax, we want to retreat and we want to revitalise when we are at home.
That means that resort-style homes are the new must-have and that doesn’t necessarily mean a $60 million pad in Vaucluse at the harbour’s edge.
And while there are certainly those types of homes on our exclusive list of NSW Top 50 Homes for 2022 – here’s looking at you Justin Hemmes – there are also those more humble, and more affordable, abodes that fulfil this lifestyle brief just as successfully.
As our number one home in humble Kensington will attest.
In setting ourselves the mammoth, controversial and polarising task of selecting NSW’s best homes, – for the first time since NSW’s Top 50 homes 2020 – our it was through this lifestyle prism that we framed our search, in our chats with architects, designers, real estate agents and our colleagues.
These are NSW’s Top 50 Homes because they are also NSW’s top envy inducing homes, the crystal blue pools, the effortlessly trendy kitchens, the always-on outdoor entertaining spaces and the seamless living room flows — who wouldn’t want to live in these incredible homes. These temples to contemporary living capture the at home Zeitgeist in something as simple as 300 sqm.
From Kenso’s stunning ZigZag masterpiece to Hemmes’ historic harbourside beauty, to Sydney’s famous Batman House – Annandale Abbey – to the gritty and grungy, but oh so cool Graffii House and Melissa Caddick’s ‘Ponzi Home they are all full of intrigue and interest.
There’s also the Central Coast’s $21m Agave, the ultimate summer weekender, the aptly named Star Trek House, tucked away, kind of in Sydney’s north east and peerless Barford, the celebrity haven tipped to be Australia’s next $110m+ home,
If you can’t or don’t live in them at the very least you can have a good old fashioned sticky beak at ‘em.
Enjoy.
