The Territory’s highest achievers are celebrating their NTCET scores. Find out who received the year’s top results.

Top 20 NTCET Students Revealed

The Territory’s top students are excited to start their careers in STEM and law.

The top 20 NTCET recipients and the Territory’s top Indigenous student for the year were revealed on Monday, out of 1352 NT students who received their results.

Darwin High School graduate Alishba Saeed achieved the highest Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training score this year.

She received an ATAR score of 99.95 – the highest possible score – and a university aggregate of 89.6.

“I was quite nervous in the lead up to the results but when I opened my ATAR, I was in disbelief and I was overjoyed,” she said.

Ms Saeed said she had a number of “offers on the table” for medicine and aeronautical engineering.

“Right now, I’m really interested about the technological advancements that are currently in medicine – for example, the use of artificial intelligence and robotics to improve the accuracy of surgeries,” she said.

Ms Saeed said her advice for future year 12 students was to stay organised and calm.

“Try to develop a strong study routine, balance your social life, exercise, sleep as well, and I think with this you’ll definitely get through the year successfully.”

Northern Territory Christian School graduate Emma King was this year’s top Aboriginal student.

She said taking subjects she was interested in was the key to her academic success.

“My advice would be to take subjects that you enjoy, not subjects that you think are going to compound to give you a good scaled score, because that’s what I did,” Ms King said.

Ms King was enrolled in society and culture, visual arts, economics, modern history and English literary studies and achieved an ATAR of 95.9 and a university aggregate of 81.9.

Ms King hopes to study law or medicine next year.

“My Mum watched a lot of legal TV shows like suits and stuff and I was like, ‘yeah, that looks awesome, that’s me’,” Ms King said.

“But then medicine, I’ve always thought I want to help people, that’s a really clear helping profession.”

Ms King said it meant a lot to her to be named the Aboriginal student of the year.

“From this point, I will spend my entire life and service to Aboriginal people, Aboriginal people have given me everything,” she said.
