Territory teachers will strike for a full-day this week in protest against the NT government’s four-year wage freeze.
A statement from the Education Department released on Monday morning said it received formal notification of the Australian Education Union NT’s (AEU NT) decision for a whole-day strike on September 1.
The strike will impact all NT schools and worksites.
It comes after teachers across Darwin and Palmerston walked out of the classrooms on August 28 protesting against the wage freeze.
“All schools will remain open and the bus service will operate as normal,” the statement read.
“Every effort will be made to minimise impacts on learning and ensure appropriate supervision is in place for students to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
“However, alternative arrangements during this time, such as modifying timetables and combining classes may be required.
“Students can anticipate different teachers and staff to supervise them as needed.”
The Commissioner for Public Employment and the AEU NT are in negotiations on a new NTPS Non-Contract Principals, Teachers and Assistant Teachers’ Enterprise Agreement.
