A carpark worth $637,000 is set to make school drop-offs safer at one Top End school.

The new nine-bay car park and “kiss and go” area at Nightcliff Middle School is set to be completed by February 2025.

Principal Eva Kokkinomagoulos said the new car park would relieve congestion during peak drop-off and pick-up times and drive better connections between the school and the community.

Ms Kokkinomagoulos said students would be safer and Nightcliff Rd would become more accessible as a result.

“At the moment we are hidden away a bit on our large block,” she said.

“We will have a better visual connection with the community into the school once this work is complete.

“Nightcliff Middle is a 70-year-old school that has experienced continued growth, so it’s great to have additional areas where pick-ups and drop-offs can happen safely and without disrupting local traffic.”

The construction contract has been picked up by Aboriginal business enterprise Sage Civil, supporting 29 local jobs.
