A Top End school has made NT history as the first to form a partnership with a Singapore school.

Larrakeyah Primary School signed a Sister School Memorandum of Understanding with Singapore’s Invictus International School in late April.

Principal Fathma Mauger and assistant principal Natasha Guse attended the ceremony at the Australian High Commission in Singapore, alongside High Commissioner Allaster Cox and executives from the Education Department.

LPS Year 6 students watched the ceremony via a livestream.

“We’re really thrilled about this new relationship and our students are already planning to meet Invictus students later in the year during their Singapore Study Tour,” Ms Mauger said.

“The Sister School agreement formalises our relationship with Invictus and will promote social, cultural and educational ties between our schools.

“We’re all looking forward to a long association with Invictus, with students from both schools building strong friendships and a deeper understanding of each other’s culture and way of life.”

Education Minister Mark Monaghan said LPS students had the chance to “broaden their perspectives, develop new cultural understandings, learn a new language and strengthen their critical thinking” through the partnership.

“The benefits of this partnership go further than student development with teachers expected to be attracted to Territory education as more of our schools sign sister school agreements from other international partners,” he said.

“The Lawler government is giving Territory students every opportunity through record funding and a landmark billion dollar agreement into education.”
