A team of students are building the trip of their dreams to show off their Lego skills at the national championships.

The team of Bees Creek Primary School students took a joint overall win with Alawa Primary School at the NT’s first Lego League competition in October.

One of the members’ parents, Rebecca Atkins, said the team was now preparing for a “once in a lifetime experience” at the national Lego League championship in Gladstone, Qld on November 23.

Ms Atkins said the team prepared for the first competition with the help of their science teacher.

“The students... gave up their lunches to come together as a team to learn, design, build the robot and strategies how to achieve the most points,” she said.

In the final competition, she said the stakes would be even higher.

“They will get three rounds of two and half minutes for their robot to complete as many task of the 15 different challenges available on the board,” she said.

“The team who gets the most points takes the win.”

Ms Atkins has launched a GoFundMe to help the team get to Gladstone.

The trip will cost about $15,000 and anyone can donate here.
