US politics live: Aussie markets rattle in global trade war after Trump tariffs

There are fears that Donald Trump’s global tariff rampage could indirectly hit the Australian economy as part of a ripple effect.

The family of Virginia Giuffre, the victim of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell who took her own life recently, has spoken to CNN, saying she would have wanted “everything released”.

Host Kaitlan Collins asked the family whether Ms Giuffre was in favour of the so-called “Epstein files” being revealed to the public.

“Absolutely,” said Danny Wilson, Ms Giuffre’s brother.

“It was really personal for me, in that these women, they’ve all gone on with their lives, and they’ve had kids, and they’ve bought houses, and they’ve had jobs. But this has still followed them.

“The pain that comes from this type of behaviour, in our society, and I think ..... somebody asked me this earlier. I don’t look at this as a Democrat or a Republican thing. I look at it as a human thing.

“I think everybody, on all sides of our country, needs to stand up. Once that collective voice is together - that’s my dream, and I think that was my sister’s dream - once that collective voice is together, we are untouchable.”

“Do you think your sister would have wanted this information out there?” Ms Collins asked.

“I know it,” said Mr Wilson.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump’s tariff negotiation has been reached.

Australia may appear – at least comparatively – to have gotten off lightly with an unchanged US tariff rate of 10 percent that Mr Trump suggested back in April but it still faces a significant economic hit because several major economies, including key trading partners, received no such reprieve.
