US politics live: Donald Trump floats death penalty for ‘seditious’ Democrats

The US President’s extreme response to the “seditious” behaviour of six Democratic politicians has sparked major fears.

Multiple politicians have lambasted Donald Trump after he seemingly floated the death penalty for six Democrats who shared a video in which they reminded active duty service members not to obey illegal orders.

“SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOUR, punishable by DEATH!” the President wrote on his Truth Social platform in response to their clip, before reshaping a comment from someone else that read: “HANG THEM”.

Governor of Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro was one of many to denounce Mr Trump’s actions, saying the President “is actively encouraging political violence once again, ratcheting up the real risk of danger to our elected leaders and deepening the divides in our country”.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump and Vice President JD Vance were notably not invited to former Vice President Dick Cheney’s funeral, a White House source has confirmed.

The service was held in Washington, DC, on Thursday local time with former presidents Joe Biden and George W Bush among more than 1000 people in attendance, along with former vice presidents Kamala Harris and Mike Pence.
