US election campaign live: Political guru Nate Silver gives verdict

An acclaimed US election guru has revealed who he believes has the “edge” in the race to the White House.

At last, we’re almost there. On Wednesday, Australian time, polls will close across the United States and the votes will be counted.

Of course, in 2020 we had several months of high drama afterwards, as Donald Trump challenged the results in court and elsewhere, so don’t assume election day itself will settle the matter this time either.

With so few hours left Mr Trump and his opponent, Kamala Harris, are doing the traditional mad dash across most of the key swing states to make their closing arguments.

Meanwhile in news that shan’t remotely surprise you, we are getting conflicting information from the polls. This election could be nerve-shreddingly close, or it could end in a landslide for either candidate – all outcomes are still conceivable, even at this late stage.
