Joe Hildebrand: Democrats’ wails about Trump threat highlights their existential failure to stop it

Donald Trump doesn’t deserve to win the US presidential election but, by God, the Democrats deserve to lose it, writes Joe Hildebrand.

Trump hits back against Biden’s garbage comments in ‘best way possible’

Donald Trump doesn’t deserve to win the US presidential election but, by God, the Democrats deserve to lose it.

Far from their high-rotation bleating that a Trump victory would be a danger to democracy, the greatest threat to US political stability would be if the Democratic Party were rewarded for the brain damaged, narcissistic and elitist disease that has already alienated them so much from working-class middle America.

You know, the ones Joe Biden called “garbage”. Biden’s demented last minute intervention was perhaps the perfect encapsulation of a double-act that has been the greatest combination of vanity and idiocy since Harry met Meghan.

If you want to talk about presidents refusing to yield power, look no further than Biden himself, who insisted on running against Trump again despite clearly having lost his faculties.

This was the ultimate triumph of one man’s ego and megalomania over the collective good, be it of the Democratic Party or the nation. And it is for this that the Democrats stand most condemned by their own incompetence and cowardice.

These are the people who – if they are to be taken at their word – genuinely believe that Trump is the greatest threat to America in history.

And how were these political masterminds and fearless defenders of democracy planning to stop that unthinkable event from happening?

By rolling out a stunt double from Weekend at Bernie’s. By putting up against him someone who was literally incapable of finishing a sentence. Furthermore, their defender against dictatorship was a president who was refusing to step aside for democracy just so he could get four more years of power.

How is it that nobody at the top of the Democratic Party – with the notable exception of Barack Obama – had the most entry-level common sense to see that this was so utterly idiotic that it can only be understood in terms of outright insanity.

Then, when a few brave souls were belatedly forced to publicly dynamite Biden out of his foxhole, it was far too late. By this time, money had already flooded the ticket in the hundreds of millions and so the nomination had to go to Biden’s running mate in order to keep the cash.

Thus the worst performer in the previous Democratic primary was instantly installed as the next presumptive president – and without even having to be tested by another primary.

Never forget: These are people who say that if Trump is elected he will destroy America as we know it, and their solution to stopping him was to send in a geriatric hair-sniffer and, failing that, the worst-performing Democratic candidate in living memory.

The only quality these two saviours of the free world shared was the inability to speak coherently, and these were produced by the greatest political machine in the greatest nation as the greatest hope for democracy.

Even the word omnishambles doesn’t come close to describing this. It is as though they developed a nuclear bomb that replaced plutonium with a core of such densely compressed stupidity it produced an infinite chain reaction.

This all-consuming perpetual engine rolled on until Kamala Harris’s last spark of hope in a disastrous campaign was snuffed out by an unsolicited drop of Biden drool.

Yet as Trump pulls ahead and polling day looms, the wailing about his dictatorial ambitions get louder and loopier, fuelling yet another ever-expanding perimeter of idiocy.

As is clear to all normal people, Trump doesn’t have a Nazi agenda – he barely has an agenda at all.

To quote Walter Sobchak from The Big Lebowski: “Say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, at least it’s an ethos.”

Exactly. Trump’s not a fascist, just a narcissist who can’t handle the fact that he lost the presidency, much less admit it. His only cause is the ultimate Hollywood sequel, the ultimate rematch.

This is what supposedly smart progressives fail to understand because it is a language they do not speak. Even when he says what he is accused of saying, and even when he even knows what he is saying, Trump’s rhetoric is WrestleMania.

He was literally a character in the WWE and is now pulling up to rallies in an actual garbage truck. What more does he have to do? Grab a metal chair? Working class people in middle America instantly get the joke and love the show, while over-educated east and west coast elites are frantically wondering what on earth is happening.

And so they ever-escalate the ever-more insane claims that he is a simultaneously moronic and yet mysteriously unstoppable evil dictator who will destroy America.

In fact, the most truly moronic thing is that the Democrats’ vaudevillian wails about this existential threat only brings into high relief the most vivid and panoramic vision of their existential failure to stop it.
