Elon Musk lauds Trump’s foreign policy after reigniting ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ feud

A day after Donald Trump threatened to deport Elon Musk, the Tesla billionaire and former pal of the president shifted gear.

Tech mogul Elon Musk hailed President Donald Trump’s foreign policy successes, days after reviving his epic war of words with his former friend.

“Credit where credit is due. @realDonaldTrump has successfully resolved several serious conflicts around the world,” Musk, 54, wrote on X on Wednesday hours after Mr Trump, 79, announced a new ceasefire push between Israel and Hamas.

President Trump announced late Tuesday that Israel had “agreed to the necessary conditions to finalise a 60-day ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip before warning that if Hamas doesn’t accept the deal, conditions “will only get worse.”

Musk’s comments come after Mr Trump suggested he’d deport his former adviser and friend and unleash the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) on the tech titan in an audit to examine government subsidies handed out to the billionaire’s companies, as their feud heated back up.

Mr Trump lashed out at Mr Musk, who once headed DOGE, after the Tesla boss renewed his criticisms of the One Big Beautiful Bill – on which Mr Trump’s domestic policy agenda hangs – calling it “utterly insane” and “political suicide.”

“Elon may get more subsidies than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,” Mr Trump posted on Truth Social early Tuesday.

“No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”

The president later told reporters that his administration would “take a look” at deporting Musk.

“We’ll have to take a look,” Mr Trump responded when asked if he was going to support his former ally.

“We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? The monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn’t that be terrible? He gets a lot of subsidies,” he added.

The president’s ire comes after Mr Musk expressed his frustration and rage over the sweeping spending bill on social media ahead of the Senate vote, which has passed 50-51.

“The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country!” the former DOGE chief wrote on X Saturday.

“Utterly insane and destructive. It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future.”

On Monday, the world’s richest man continued his criticism, saying politicians who had campaigned on cutting spending but backed the bill “should hang their heads in shame!”

“And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” Musk said.

The SpaceX CEO called again for a new political party, saying the bill’s massive spending indicated “that we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY!!”

Mr Trump said Tuesday his former ally was upset because he lost the EV mandate in the bill.

“Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate,” the president wrote on Truth Social.

As Mr Trump toured a migrant detention camp in the Florida Everglades dubbed ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ he said “I don’t think he should be playing that game with me.”

Mr Musk was Mr Trump’s biggest political donor in the 2024 election, and became his inseparable ally during his first months back in the White House as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

But the Space X and Tesla boss is now threatening to turn his riches against President Trump, mulling a rival political party to challenge Republican politicians who voted for the president’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” and even backing Mr Trump’s political rivals.

In reply to a post on his X social network featuring Mr Trump’s deportation comments, Mr Musk said: “So tempting to escalate this. So, so tempting. But I will refrain for now.”

Shares of Tesla sank around five per cent on Tuesday after Mr Trump’s threats.

“All I’m asking is that we don’t bankrupt America,” Mr Musk said on social media Tuesday, accusing Republicans of supporting “debt slavery.”
